ZAMAKANNAN
Amr Hatem & Katrine Dirckinck-Holmfeld, 2026, 30 min 4K
ZAMAKANNAN is a video installation about the community around Sorte Firkant — a café and cultural venue in Blågårdsplads, Copenhagen. The video draws an intimate portrait of the people and the everyday life surrounding the square. The film is a sequel to the long-term project Zamakan, developed by Hatem and Dirckinck-Holmfeld since 2018. Zamakan explores the notion of what we term the contrapuntal image. Drawing on the work of Edward Said, we aim to explore how the contrapuntal image enfolds heterogeneous spaces and times within the very materiality and texture of the image. ZAMAKANNAN is an attempt to register everything that has happened to the community since we shot Zamakan in 2018, and to reflect on how the atrocities we are witnessing are inscribed in everyday life.
